Violinist plays live Super Mario soundtrack

One can cut a pie into 8 pieces with three movements.
If you keep a Goldfish in the dark room, it will eventually turn white.
A hippopotamus can, on average, outrun a human.

Mood music leaves women more open to a date

Researchers claim women are more likely to agree to a date with a man if they've been listening to romantic music before he asks.

The French boffins (yes, they even research romance) set up a scenario where 87 women each met an 'average' looking man as background music played.

He then asked them out on a date and it was found those women who'd been listening to 'Je l'aime à mourir' by Francis Cabrel were significantly more likely to say yes.

52% of those listening to romantic music say yes to the date compared with 28% who had been listening to 'neutral' tunes.

In odd news there is now a French psychologist with a very busy social life -- by our reckoning he now has 32 dates lined up.

Japanese violinist has shot to fame after posting videos of himself playing the violin to classic Nintendo games.

Rather than simply playing the theme tune, Teppei Okada plays the sound to 'live' games including the sounds of things like jumps and power-ups.

Okada has videoed himself playing other classic games tunes such as Donkey Kong, Yoshi's Cookie and Dragon Quest 4 -- all while wearing a classy (and very white) suit.
The 34-year-old classically trained musician also offers lesson to other game/music fans, which makes us wish we could play the violin.

Actually forget that, we just want enough money to pay him to come and play like this whenever we are playing Mario.

Overheard in a bookshop - Are readers stupid?

People who read lots of books are generally thought to be smarter than their less well read counterparts -- but that idea could soon be challenged.

Bookstore owners across the UK are compiling a list of the most stupid and amusing they have heard from shoppers.

Examples so far include the customer who asked if Anne Frank wrote any more books after her diary - and the man who when asked to specify what sort of map he wanted said "mappy maps."

Another of the gems compiled to celebrate Independent Booksellers Week is the lady who asked "Did Charles Dickens write any shorter versions of his books?"

But our personal favourite is the teenager who wanted to return a copy of Douglas Adams' Hitch-hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy -- because it didn't even contain anything about Italy where she was going Euro-railing.

Pedal Porsche is the sports-car made from foil

An artist has spent over six months and £10,000 creating a life-size but lightweight pedal-powered Porsche -- using plastic pipes, duct tape and kitchen foil.

Hannes Langeder says he wanted to recreate the super-car using everyday objects as a "socio-environmental statement" about sustainability and practicality.

There's a bicycle at the heart of the 'car' and the frame was built from plastic pipes and rolls of duct tape before being covered in foil to give a metallic finish. In total it weights just 99.6 kilograms.

The Ferdinand GT3 RS is legally seen as a bicycle, meaning it can be taken on Austrian roads… though other motorists might expect him to pull away from junctions a little faster.
