E FM Beyonce and Jay-Z

Beyonce and Jay-Z welcomed a baby girl in New York on January 8. Not one to stick to convention, the chart-topping couple opted to grace their daughter with a peculiar name. Although initial reports claimed that Bey's baby was named "Ivy Blue," the duo's good friend Gwyneth Paltrow confirmed on her Twitter that the little bundle of joy is in fact named Blue Ivy.

Since fans were scratching their heads at this uncommon name, we've decided to break it down to gain a little insight.

Diehard Beyonce and Jay-Z fans speculated that Blue Ivy's unusual name refers to both artists' past musical endeavors. Many claimed that Blue's first name is a reference to Jay-Z's 2001 album The Blueprint. As for Ivy? Some fans said it stood for IV --- the Roman numeral for 4, which coincidentally is the name of Beyonce's 2011 album.

Of course, Bey and Jay aren't the only celebrity parents who are fond of crazy names. From Natalie Portman's son Aleph to Gwen Stefani's Zuma, Hollywood has taken an inkling to uncommon names.
